mIRC - IRC Client > Connecting to YG IRC

mIRC is the most popular full featured windows IRC client.... In this tutorial I will show you how to install mIRC and connect to YG's IRC channel.

First of all go to 'www.mirc.com/get.html' to download the 30 days free trail version. Just click on 'Download mIRC' in the green box on the right side of the page.



Download the file (1,8 MB) and run it as soon as the download is complete...



Click on 'Next' ...



Read the License Agreement and click on 'I Agree' to continue ...




1. Click on 'Browse...' to change the folder where you want mIRC will be installed in.

2. Click on 'Next' to continue ...



1. Choose the components you want to install. (Just dont change anything if you dont know what it means)

2. Click on 'Next' to continue ...



1. Select additional tasks you would like to perform, such as creating a Desktop Shortcut or a Start Menu Shortcut

Backup Current Files -> If you already have mIRC installed you might select this if you dont want to lose all your logs/scripts/etc...

Run as Portable Application -> If you are installing mIRC on your PC/Laptop dont select that.

2. Click on 'Next' to continue ...



mIRC is about to install now... check if the 'Additional Tasks' are as you want them to be and if the 'Destination folder' is correct.

If not go back and change whatever was wrong.

If everything is correct click on 'Install' ...



Done! You successfully installed the 30 days free trial mIRC version.

Select 'Run mIRC' to start it then click on 'Finish' ...



Click 'Continue'



1. Now you'll need to fill in some Informations...

Nickname -> Choose your nickname e.g. Yournamehere

Alternative -> Choose an alternative nickname which will be used if your Nickname is already used e.g. Yournamehere2

Name (Optional) -> If you want you can fill in your name (doesnt need to be your real name) e.g. Yournamehere IsAwesome

Email (Optional) -> If you want you can fill in your Email Address, you dont actually need to do that... e.g. youremailid@blablah.com

After filling the informations, press 'Connect'

You have connected to a IRC server.And it is not YG IRC server, to connect to YG IRC type '/server irc.focogaming.com' in the text box as shown below.



Now you can start using mIRC.

Lets join '#ygirc' first of all...

So go down to the text box at the bottom and type in '/join #ygirc'



Now press 'Enter' to execute the command...



You successfully joined the Channel.

On the picture you can see some basic elements of a channel window, such as the main chat windows (marked as 'Chat' on the picture), the channel user list and
a list of all channels you are currently in.

Lets join '#yg-chat' next ...



Go down to the text box at the bottom again and type in '/join #yg-chat', then press 'Enter' to execute the command.



You successfully joined the Channel.

As you can see on the picture the channel you just joined (#yg-chat) was added to your channel list (marked red on the picture)

Now you can start chatting 



Go down to the text box at the bottom again and type in your message, then press 'Enter' to sent it.



Now you can see the message you wrote in the chat box (marked red on the picture), you'll also see messages sent by others there e.g. iceCuBe's message "tutorial"

* If you want to disconnect from the server just use the connect/disconnect button () in the upper left corner.

* You can switch to other channels by just clicking on the channel name in your channel list on the left side.

* By clicking twice on a users name in the channel user list on the right side you can start a private conversation with them.

*NOTE: The channels #ygtdm and #ygtdm-chat has been moved to separate servers, you can join #ygirc and #ygirc[3c].

IRC is just used for chatting and other purposes. You must be in game to view gaming.
